Brief note on co-curricular activities Co-curricular activities is a program and learning experiences that complement in some way, what students are learning in school- i.e, experiences that are connected to or mirror the academic curriculum. It is an extension of the formal learning experiences in a course or academic program. Extracurricular activities may be offered or coordinated by a school but may not be explicitly connected to academic learning. These activities stimulate playing, acting, recitation and narrating in students. It plays a very significant role in development of students. These activities are compulsory activities which is important for every student to participate. It is designed and balanced with academic curriculum so that every student gets to learn beyond subjects. They are meant to bring social skills, intellectual skills, moral values, personality progress and character appeal in students. In Bikash Bharati Blooms Day School, there are various co-curricular activities for pre-primary students. These are English Rhymes, Solo Dance, Hindi Rhymes, Sit & Draw, Fancy Dress and Story Telling. For Class I & II: There are English Rhymes, Spelling Competition, Rakhi Making, Handwriting, Go-as-you-like and Christmas tree decoration. There are also some Inter-House activities like Recitation, Song, Quiz, Debate, Rangoli, Solo Dance, Mono-acting & Extempore and Intra-House activities include Clay Modelling, Best out of waste, Collage making, Christmas tree decoration, Greeting card making etc and these activities are carried out month wise. These help the students to stay active at school by participation. These activities are beneficial for students’ physical and mental fitness. It improves students’ learning experiences at school. It also improves their attendance at school. It develops leadership skills, team integrity and coordination skills as they are designed in groups. They also help in developing ethical values about different cultures, religions, events of National and International importance as well as discipline and school life ethics. Best aspects of co-curricular activities at school is that they are part of academics and makes teaching and learning experience exciting for both students and teachers that’s why it is very essential for every student.
